Music Mondays featuring Melanie Scholtz

Melanie Scholtz is a multi-award-winning South African-born jazz singer and composer. Graduating from the University of Cape Town Opera School Cum Laude in 2000, she has since released five albums.

Winner of the prestigious Standard Bank Young Artist award for jazz in 2010, Melanie went on to win all three prizes at the celebrated Jazz Revelations Competition in Nice, France in 2012. She has played at the Jazz a Juan festival in 2013, The Joy of Jazz Festival in Johannesburg and the Oslo Chamber Music Festival in Norway in 2014.

Touring, writing, collaborating, performing and recording with local and international artists, Melanie has performed alongside Sibongile Khumalo, Marcus Wyatt, Hugh Masekela, Jo Fougner Skaansar and Kurt Elling.

Melanie has performed in many countries: Norway, Sweden, Kenya, Nigeria, France, Germany, Czech, Slovakia, Ghana, Morocco and Spain. Melanie has recently moved to New York, where she is hoping to further her jazz career as a performer, songwriter and recording artist. Besides performing with a jazz trio, whether it be jazz or her own music, Melanie has a solo project called The Lone looper, using a looper, which enables her to create compositions using only the voice.

Expect two sets, at 8:30 and 9:30. No cover.
